Hitting The Apex

Hitting The Apex

Recently, “Hitting the Apex” has resurfaced thanks to being broadcasted on Netflix! If you’re a fan of Motorcycles and racing and even a general motorsports fan, this is a must watch!

Essentially, Hitting the Apex is a story of MotoGP from the 2010-2014. It covers six riders, the main players of this era; Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Marco Simoncelli.

Filmed by Mark Neale, who gave us “Faster and Fastest” and narrated by no other than Brad Pitt, this onslaught of tantalising slow-mo’s and crashes will leave any MotoGP fan on the edge of their seat! Amongst all of the action, there are some well-done exclusive, never-seen-before clips including footage and material of the riders backgrounds and upbringings!

Hitting the Apex gives a good insight into the featured riders personal battles, in particular our very own Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi!

It also features the tragic accident in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit in MotoGP which resulted in the tragic passing of Marco Simoncelli. In fourth position, during lap two, Simoncelli’s bike lost traction in Turn 11 and started to slide towards the gravel on the outside of the corner. Unfortunately, the tires regained traction and sent Simoncelli on a collision course with Colin Edwards (USA) and his Italian compatriot, Valentino Rossi.

The race was immediately red flagged. An hour after the accident, his death was announced due to having sustained serious head, neck and chest injuries and receiving 45 minutes of CPR unsuccessfully. It still hits as hard now as it did 10 years ago...

All-in-all, Hitting the Apex is a great watch. The emotional rollercoaster of high’s and low’s, mixed with unbelievable footage keeping you on the edge of your seat was truly an enjoyable experience. A MotoGP documentary narrated by Brad Pitt, what more could you ask for!
